This is part of a series of brooches I made to celebrate my mother’s birthday this year.
My mother was born in the Chinese year of the rooster and she is represented as such in the middle of the disc. Around her and herself, her husband and her family each represented by their birthstone and divided into family groups (You’ll notice that not many of us have children!)
Centre bottom a Blue Topaz to represent Sue a ruby heart to represent marriage and beside her a Green Tourmaline to represent my father, Alan.
To the left a Group: Peridot (Sister Sue), Diamond (Nephew Noah) and Garnet (Nephew Zac)
To the right a Group: Opal (Brother Rob), Carnelian (nephew Moss), Peridot (Fenn)
Then everyone without kids, Square Peridot (Steven), Moonstone (Fran) Rubies (Myself and Willie)
