A while ago Warren Ellis was part of a touring retrospective with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. A treasured piece of Nina Simone’s chewing gum was to be going the be in the show amoung their past instruments and Warren was dreadfully worried about it getting lost.
As an insurance I made a cast of the gum and produced a few copies in silver. This amazing project grew and grew and eventually Warren made a book about the gum, Nina Simone’s Gum… a book that touched many many lives.
Since then I have often been asked if I sell this treasured piece… which I don’t. This gum belongs exclusively to Warren… but, thanks so artist Mark Spelman, I do have the next best thing. A copy of a piece of gum chewed by Warren Ellis.
This gum is made of solid silver or gold plated bronze and it comes in two sizes full size and half size.
All profits from the gum will be donated directly to Ellis Park, an animal sanctuary in Sumatra that cares for rescued animals with special needs who cannot be released back into the wild. It’s a win win, you get a little piece of the Nina Simone Gum story and Ellis Park gets a much needed donation towards their important work.
